Legend of the Shasta Grizzly Bear…as shared by bear Medicinewalker

shasta bear story
Before people were on the Earth, the Chief of the Great Sky Spirits grew tired of his home in the Above World because it was always cold. So he made a hole in the sky by turning a stone around and around. Through the hole he pushed snow and ice until he made a big mound. This mound was Mount Shasta.

Then Sky Spirit stepped from the sky to the mountain and walked down. When he got about halfway down, he thought: “On this mountain there should be trees.” So he put his finger down and everywhere he touched, up sprang trees. Everywhere he stepped, the snow melted and became rivers.

The Sky Spirit broke off the end of his big walking stick he had carried from the sky and threw the pieces in the water. The long pieces became Beaver and Otter. The smaller pieces became fish. From the other end of his stick he made the animals.

Biggest of all was Grizzly Bear. They were covered with fur and had sharp claws just like today, but they could walk on their hind feet and talk. They were so fierce looking that the Sky Spirit sent them to live at the bottom of the mountain. When the leaves fell from the trees, Sky Spirit blew on them and made the birds.

Then Sky Spirit decided to stay on the Earth and sent for his family. Mount Shasta became their lodge. He made a BIG fire in the middle of the mountain and a hole in the top for the smoke and sparks. Every time he threw a really big log on the fire, the Earth would tremble and sparks would fly from the top of the mountain.

Late one spring, Wind Spirit was blowing so hard that it blew the smoke back down the hole and burned the eyes of Sky Spirit’s family. Sky Spirit told his youngest daughter to go tell Wind Spirit not to blow so hard.

Sky Spirit warned his daughter: “When you get to the top, don’t poke your head out. The wind might catch your hair and pull you out. Just put your arm through and make a sign and then speak to Wind Spirit.”

The little girl hurried to the top of the mountain and spoke to Wind Spirit. As she started back down, she remembered that her father had told her that the ocean could be seen from the top of the mountain. He had made the ocean since moving his family to the mountain and his daughter had never seen it.

She put her head out of the hole and looked to the west. The Wind Spirit caught her hair and pulled her out of the mountain. She flew over the ice and snow and landed in the scrubby fir trees at the timberline, her long red hair flowing over the snow.

There Grizzly Bear found her. He carried the little girl home with him wondering who she was. Mother Grizzly Bear took care of her and brought her up with her cubs. The little girl and the cubs grew up together. When she became a young woman, she and the eldest son of Grizzly Bear were married. In the years that followed they had many children. The children didn’t look like their father or their mother.

All the grizzly bears throughout the forest were proud of these new creatures. They were so pleased, they made a new lodge for the red-haired mother and her strange looking children. They called the Lodge – Little Mount Shasta.

After many years had passed, Mother Grizzly Bear knew that she would soon die. Fearing that she had done wrong in keeping the little girl, she felt she should send word to the Chief of the Sky Spirits and ask his forgiveness. So she gathered all the grizzlies at Little Mount Shasta and sent her oldest grandson to the top of Mount Shasta, in a cloud, to tell the Spirit Chief where he could find his daughter.

The father was very glad. He came down the mountain in great strides. He hurried so fast the snow melted. His tracks can be seen to this day. As he neared the lodge, he called out for his daughter. He expected to see a little girl exactly as he saw her last. When he saw the strange creatures his daughter was taking care of, he was surprised to learn that they were his grandchildren and he was very angry. He looked so sternly at the old grandmother that she died at once. Then he cursed all the grizzlies.

“Get down on your hands and knees. From this moment on all grizzlies shall walk on four feet. And you shall never talk again. You have wronged me.”

He drove his grandchildren out of the lodge, threw his daughter over his shoulder and climbed back up the mountain. Never again did he come to the forest. Some say he put out the fire in the center of his lodge and returned to the sky with his daughter. Those strange grandchildren scattered and wandered over the earth. They were the first Indians, the ancestors of all the Indian Tribes.

That is why the Indians living around Mount Shasta never kill Grizzly Bear. Whenever one of them was killed by a grizzly bear, his body was burned on the spot. And for many years all who passed that way cast a stone there until a great pile of stones marked the place of his death.

March 11, 2016 Totem Card of the Day – Elephant

card 23 elephant 1122
Elephant paid a visit in dreamwalk and dropped in the cards this morning with a powerful message of family, protection and commitment. making sure we all remember to cherish the youth and care for them properly so they will grow strong and walk in positive ways on their paths. Too often we get caught in ego and the shuffle of life around us that we often forget that the Children, the Youth of today look to us to set examples of how to be. Many not having the same family values that were instilled in people long ago we need to remember and set positive examples for them to follow and not ones filled with ego, hate and ignorance…but more nurturing, loving and focused on the future generations. Teach them, but teach them well and before you do, look to the mirror and place your souls intent to balance.

Elephant brings with it determination and loyalty that are needed to walk through our human. Not to give up easily for if we stay the course smartly, our goals will be met. They remind us all we must look after ourselves first before can help others, and to follow our instincts they will show us where we need to go and what we need to nourish within our souls.

Family is an important aspect and to remember to focus on the very young and our Elders, it is our duty to care for both. Loyalty is another trait the Elephant brings out in us, reminding us ever so gently that sometimes we need to remain loyal in spite of difficult circumstances in all situations, for all will be made clear as we move ahead in positive steps.

Elephant communicates with its family intuitively and suggests that there is a memory that is being held on to tightly that needs to be let go, let go of the past, it is what has assisted us to this point, but needs to remain in the past. Elephant is reminding us about gentleness, commitment, and communication for ourselves and all relationships in and about our own Sacred Hoops. That all of it is powerful medicine much needed as it helps us to keep relationships healthy.

So today I challenge you all to teach positives, set good examples so that our futures will be more balanced …

the Eagle Feather as shared by bear Medicinewalker

eaglefeathers blogbear

In the beginning the Creator gave to the Four Leggeds and Winged Ones wisdom and knowledge and the power to talk to humans. Each creature was sent to tell the people that he showed himself through them. They would teach a chosen people of all lands the sacred songs and dances as well as rituals, prayers and lore. All things that would assist the humans to walk good healthy and balanced lives.

The creature that was most loved by the Creator was the Eagle for they bring with them the story of life. In the beginning the Eagle would only lays two eggs, and all living things in the world are divided into two. There is man and woman or male and female and this is true with all of life and nature here on the planet. All things are able to have children of two kinds so that life may continue. Man has two eyes, two hands, two feet and he has a body and soul, substance and shadow.

Through our eyes we can see pleasant and unpleasant scenes, through our nostrils we are able to smell good and bad odors, with our ears we can hear beautiful music or hear words that can make us sad. Our thoughts are divided between good and bad. Our right hands are sometimes used for bad, such as war or striking a person in anger. Yet our left hand which is nearest to our hearts are full of kindness. Our right feet may lead us to the wrong paths, but our left ones always guide us to the right way. And so it goes there is daylight and darkness, summer and winter, peace and war, and life and death.

In order for us to understand and remember this lesson of life, we should look to the great eagle the favorite Winged one of the Creator. Thus the eagle feather is divided into two parts one part light the other dark. This represents daylight and darkness, summer and winter, peace and war, and life and death. So that you may remember what I have shared with you look to the favored Winged One the Eagle, for his feathers will remind you of the story of life itself.

So try and recall what I have shared with you. For it is YOU and only You who will choose the path in life you will follow — the good way, or the wrong way.

“Join Me as I continue the Sacred Hoop Project into this Year 2017 “the year of Atonement”

Eagle Spirit by Steven Rushingwind available at http://www.steverushingwind.com/ and I tunes

Elementals… it’s Quite Simple, Really

Burning-Earth_www.FullHDWpp.com_

Elementals… let’s look at how we can implement and work with them a little in our own lives.
Let’s start with Air… well what is that first thing that comes to mind… stress chaos…. Frustration… so what do we do… lets work with the Elemental Air…..stop and breathe it in… I mean really breathe it in… it clears our minds, calms the nerves and resets the panic button so we can think a little more clearly.

7c4fc7c09d451e920088efea971a8965.jpg

So when things are a little foggy, a slight bit stressful, open a window…open a door and just breathe. Allow that breath to center us… I often do this when getting ready for a reading or going into a meditation or prayer state. It’s always amazing to me just how it assists me. Think of taking that breath as opening the door after a long winter to air the house out…Wind power…

Can’t hear you all…take a deep deep breath and fill it all the way til you can fit no more… then let it slowly out releasing all the negative stuff we are holding….

Okay the next step …lets do Water….

animated_water_drop

Water is refreshing revitalizing renewing. It gives life, it sustains life… Our bodies are made up of water… so reach out for that elemental, step into a shower… and let it rinse away the negativity, feel its renewal of energy as it refreshingly wakes you up…or gets your day moving in the right direction…

Step out into a warm summers rain…there is nothing like it… or the smell of a rain in the spring as it brings the world back to sleep after a long winters rest… live it and take the experience in…enjoy that rebirth of energy

Earth…. Grounding…. When life is crazy and we are so out of touch with things… and nothing makes sense… go out and take a walk… plant your feet onto the grass…or in some dirt… ot snow for that matter… just get outside and connect…hug a tree… it will ground you… it will make you forget for a little and you will be able to put things in perspective again…

earthsunrisetest02

The great mother is here in support of us… so honor her…respect her… and tell her you love her…tap into that energy…

Fire…. One of my favorite elementals… fire the power of the burn… when you need to get motivated they tell us lets get fired up… the heat… the energy from that… Father Sun… helps all things to grow… keeps us warm… gives us energy in the form of Fire….We cook with it… we pray with it… we dance with it…

FireAnimation

So think about all the possibilities, or realize the potential we all have at our fingertips if we only would take a minute to channel the power of the Elementals… For The miracle of life is the miracle of the elementals.

burning sage

Let us raise our intentions to our consciousness and voice by sending healing energies and prayer up this day… Today I pray for all those who ask, all those in need, all those who do not ask … I pray that we are given the strength, the joy and the love that is needed in our days…

I call to the sacred winds…to carry my words
To the Grandmothers and Grandfathers of the North, the south, the east, the west, Above …below and within…

I call to the sacred winds to carry my words to the Winged ones…the Four Leggeds…the Plant People…the Crystal Keepers, the Thunder Beings, the Angelic Realm…Mother Mary and Magdalene…my Brother Christ and all the nations that love us.

I thank you for all the many blessings that you have shared with us today and beyond and I ask that you hear our prayers whether spoken our held silently within our hearts.

Today I ask that you hear our prayers as we stand humbly before you, small and human.
Help us to remember we are all but a tiny part of a great universe, that we are all connected as one…

Bring us the strength we need to walk our paths without ego or judgment…
Allow our hearts to hear what our ears are missing
Teach us how to allow forgiveness for others and ourselves
Fill our being with the unconditional love that you so freely offer all.
I call that we be reminded we are all no better than or less than one another.

Guide us through our days, to help us with our humanness…that we learn to reconnect with others in a gentle and positive way. Offering smiles when they are needed without thought, shoulders or ears to help ease another…and words that will uplift or soothe.

Keep our children safe and strong in this troubled world… I ask that on this day and days to come…guidance is shared with them to help them as they walk their paths. Help open their eyes so they can learn and see the right way of things, teach them to respect all life as sacred no matter how small, open their ears and minds so that they may understand things that are being taught to them in good and gentle manners…open their hearts so that when the harshness of the world falls at their feet, they can cope and handle it with compassion and understanding.

I ask that today and all days ahead that our awareness of the Elementals and the energies they offer become keener, sharper. So that we can understand how to use and harness that power to better our lives, our health our states of mind. For us to be thankful for all that we need to survive and walk productive positive lives has been provided for… if we simply open our eyes to the magic of the world around us. I call to the Element of Water…cleanse and refresh us…nurture our bodies and our Souls! I call to the Elemental of Air… clear our minds and thoughts… jump start our being, help us gain new perspectives! I call to the Great Mother Earth and give thanks for all she shares… help us to ground and center ourselves again… and I call out to the elemental of Fire… Ignite within us all a new way of thinking, give us the energy we need to become better people to ourselves and others…

I thank all those who have walked with us and answer our calls…this day and in days to come…and honor you …
AHO

So today…give yourself a gift, and play with the magic of the elementals… and allow them to bring magic and miracles into your lives!
I wish you a wonderful and magical day…may the love in my heart reach and fill yours.

“Never Fading Spirit of Mother Earth” by Big City Indians and available at http://bigcityindians.com

March 2, 2016 Totem Card of the Day – Horse

card 20 Horse 1122
Well the Horse shares some insights with us all and asks what we are going to do when the barn door gets thrown open? Horse speaks to ALL the “STUFF” that we have locked away and don’t want to deal with!  Do we think that it will all just go away, or that it will somehow disappear without any kind of impact? Well we locked it up and hid it for a reason right? The reason is we don’t want to deal with truths… we feed the fears and negatives in hopes that somehow at some point it will work itself out without us not having to do doing anything about it.  Don’t be ashamed of it, we all do it at some point… why ? Because we are Human!

However if you want to move ahead in your life being free to experience and feel all the magic of it and positives in it… we must deal with TRUTHS of everything, good bad and indifferent. It won’t kill us, it will simply help us to bring about balance again to our own Sacred Hoops. So no matter if it is something you did, didn’t do… felt, didn’t feel whatever it is… DEAL WITH IT AND MOVE FORWARD! Go ahead and open that barn door and let it OUT! You will feel better with it all after dealing with it head on and releasing it.

Horse brings with it the joy of wide open spaces and the ability to move freely about. It shares that it is time to open the barn doors and venture out into the world to experience what the Universe is offering for all of us if we are willing to open to it in positive ways. They help to guide us swiftly and sure footed to the next part of the path we are to reach.

However in doing so Horse also shares that the herd is important. The ones that are within our Sacred Hoop…family…friends… that they are there to assist us as we move forward and not stay in the old ways, with things that need to be let loose. Mend fences and move forward with everything, but truly mend them do not just go through the motions, for if you don’t take the time needed you will loose the positives that are part of that same Sacred Hoop.

Horse tells us to awaken our souls and honor our true self, our true dreams and aspirations. Feel the wind, feel the earth beneath you, feel the sun share its warmth and energy, feel the water as it nourishes and cleanses. Allow your senses to be in a place of all that is Sacred.

February 29, 2016 Totem Card of the Day – Koi sharing Neither Here or There … a Day of Magical Illusion

card 17 koi 1122
Today that extra day that only typically comes around every four years in order to set the balance right!   Added to keep the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical or seasonal years as they occur.  So what does that mean to us as we walk the Human?  Well let’s just make our mind up that today is all about having that extra crunch time to set our Sacred Hoops on the right track, to bring about balance to our worlds! Leap Day! From a numerological stand point, the number 29 breaks down to 11 (2+9), which is looked upon in many new age spiritual communities as being a number of awakening and spiritual enlightenment.

The day itself Koi shares is to be a day of a deeper way of thinking, looking into one’s soul to open it to receive what is needed to mend, balance or strengthen our Sacred Hoops. It’s a day to manifest success for the upcoming year! It’s that extra bit-o-magic to set things right in your world! To look at truths without the Illusions that humans and life often put there. Free falling Wisdom’s of the Ancestors being shared if we take a step and open ourselves to hearing them.

We often sit asking the meanings of this or that, or why we are at the exact point we are standing in… and we often being human do not want to hear the answers in order to move forward. Why? Well often we are scared of the answers we may receive back, we sit in harsh judgment of others and more often than not…ourselves. Let it go! Release it … this day…mend Your Hoops and bring balance again. Stop playing the blame game and Wow what a concept…take responsibility for You and your part in the things that you can’t let go! Whether it is a past relationship or a grudge, a fear or a corner you have boxed yourself into and do not want to admit you helped get yourself there… LET IT GO… We are all sharing the same day of Neither Here or There… the day of Magical Illusions! So make the most of it and take out the Illusion and add some Life to your world!

The Koi fish brings to us prosperity and a path for new opportunities to show themselves to us. It is up to each of us to be open and aware in order to take advantage of them. Koi can assist us during meditation and altered states of mind in order to help us achieve healing and our full potentials by opening to the wisdom’s of “the Old Ones.” The colors can also be associated with various aspects and applied to our lives if we can again be open to what they share.

The black Koi brings transition into our lives.

The gold Koi brings prosperity which can represent the physical, the spiritual or represent monetary wealth that is being brought to our paths.

The platinum Koi brings to our lives success and puts new and beneficial opportunities at our doors.

White Koi that have red coloring only on their heads push us to be aware of positive movement within our lives and enables us to take advantage of them.

A white and red marked Koi is said be a blessing for well balanced relationships.

The Koi teach us to remember to honor all that is Sacred, to meditate and pray… to be thankful for all our many blessings large and small. To understand that our actions today will imprint for lifetimes just as it has for our Ancestor’s. So walk your paths wisely and ask for assistance from our Ancestor’s often.

Beyond the Veil by Chris Ferree and available at http://www.chrisferree.com and I tunes

Chicken Fingers, Cheesy Rice and Tomato Tortellini Soup…

Ms Rosa

As most people know, February is Black History Month, and as I awoke this morning I heard a sweet soft and familiar voice in my head, so I agreed and I will once again share our story.

As some of you may or may not know I worked at Children’s Hospital of Detroit, MI for many years. The best job ever…the worst job ever. But all in all it was an amazing place to work in filled with even more amazing people that will forever hold special places in my memories and heart. I mainly worked the afternoon shift, and that is when I met one of those people that will always be first and foremost one of the most gentle and sweet people I have ever met.

I worked mainly in the ICU and Hemoc units of the hospital and usually took my breaks for dinner around 5:00 p.m. since all the cafeterias would close by 7:00 p.m. in the evenings. We had a choice of which hospital to eat at because they were connected through a grouping of underground tunnels. The Detroit Medical Center is sort of massive and you truly get exercise working there. Sometimes I would go to dinner and sit with my co-workers, other times I would head off later due to what was going on in the unit so would catch them as they were returning winding up eating by myself. I mostly brought my own food from home that I prepared before heading into work and mainly sitting in the cafeteria to give myself a break, use the microwave and basically just chill for 45 minutes. This was one of those days I was eating by myself.

Sitting at a table in Receiving Hospital I looked up and saw an Elder struggling with her food tray, so I immediately got up to assist her. She smiled and thanked me. She was so tiny in stature but made up for it with the twinkling light in her eyes. I asked her if she would like to sit with me and she quickly agreed. I put her tray down and we began to talk with each other, when the microwave beeped I excused myself to go and grab my food and when I returned, she says mmmmhmmm that looks delicious. I asked her if she would like to share some with me for I had plenty and she nodded yes. I said nothing special just chicken fingers, cheesy rice and tomato tortellini soup. She told me it looked like a feast, we both laughed.

She introduced herself as Ms. Rosa and I introduced myself. She asked me of my medicine pouch that I always had hanging around my neck, told me it looked like something the “injuns” wore down home. I laughed and said probably right explaining in the process its meaning. She looked up at me and said hmmm, I like that. She was 82 years young she told me…and I was a young one she said at 34 years old. We smiled often and laughed a lot. And when I asked her if she wanted me to cook her something special she said I like just what we had and so began a ritual we would have every week.

A few months went by as we got to know each other better, mostly talking of gardening, and of family, she asked to see the pictures of my daughter. We spoke of life good and the ugly side of it, we spoke of the old neighborhoods which I grew up in and still lived in, times when neighbors depended on each other and treated each other as family… and sometimes just sitting with each other in the perfect silence of our company. Once she said to me,” Remember the good things but never forget the bad… for it makes us stronger and better people.’ I agreed and just remember my heart felt so much love for this little tiny Elder that shared a meal here and there with me. I was grateful for the time, grateful for her friendship.

One particular afternoon we were sitting having our usual dinner together when one of my co-workers walked up with a goofy look on her face. She said “Hi” and I said hello back and introduced her to Ms. Rosa invited her to sit with us. She was all nervous and giggly and said no she had to head back and would catch me later. We continued our break and gave each other a hug and off we went back to our jobs… Ms. Rosa doing her volunteering and me to my unit.

Soon my co-worker came to find me and was all excited again. “Girl do you know who that was?” To which I replied that of course I did it was Ms. Rosa and we ate dinner together often why? She laughed and gave me that look again, she said, “It sure is Ms. Rosa…it’s Ms. Rosa Parks… the Rosa Parks.” The knowledge of her last name did not change my opinion of her, it did not make me feel more or less love for her… for she was an amazing Human being no matter of the history. See, you never know who you may run into, share a meal with, a seat, space or words with. Learn to appreciate every moment, for they imprint on us good, bad and indifferent.

To this day I treasure the memory of the meals of Chicken Fingers, Cheesy Rice and Tomato Tortellini Soup shared with an Elder Ms. Rosa because she is part of the people that walk with me and molded me into who I am today.
