Hummingbird brings back Tobacco as shared by bear Medicinewalker

hummingbirdtobacco plant
Long ago, when all people and animals spoke the same language, there was only one tobacco plant in all the world. From far and wide they come for their tobacco. All was well, until the greedy Dagul’ku geese stole the plant and flew far to the south with it where they guarded it night and day. Before long the people and animals began to suffer greatly because the tobacco was gone.

One such person was a beloved Elder woman who had become very ill, so thin and weak that it was felt by all that she would die soon, and could only be saved by their Sacred tobacco and it disturbed them all that they could not provide what was needed. So it was decided that they should hold a council and make a plan on how to retrieve the tobacco that had been taken from them. They all agreed that the animals should be sent to see if they could get it back.

One by one, the animals all tried to get the plant, but each time they were seen by the Dagul’ku geese and could not reach the Sacred tobacco plant. From the largest to the smallest, the Four Leggeds failed. Then one among them, the Mole decided he should be the one that he would go. Everyone thought this to be a good idea since he would tunnel under the ground to the plant and be able to get it back. So off he went tunneling ever closer to the Sacred tobacco plant. However the Dagul’ku geese were waiting for him for with their keen sense of hearing they heard him underneath as he was digging his tunnel and they waited at the plant for him to come out. As soon as he raised his head above ground the Dagul’ku geese attacked him and he went back to the village without the Sacred plant.

The mood within the council was very somber after that. None could think of any way to get the Sacred tobacco plant away from the greedy Dagul’ku geese. No one wanted to go only to be attacked and sent back in defeat.

As the Hummingbird sat listening to all of the plans she had come up with one of her own. She boldly arose in front of the council and told them all that she could retrieve the Sacred plant. They all looked at her and laughed, “How could you do this, you are so small? How could you get to the Sacred plant past the Dagul’ki geese? She held her ground and told them that she knew she could do it and if they wanted they could test her. So they pointed to the middle of the meadow, they showed her a plant that all could see and said to her, “Go, sit on that plant, but do not let us see you getting there.”

No sooner than the words had been spoken then they all could see the little Hummingbird sitting atop the plant in the meadow. And then again before their very eyes she disappeared again only to reappear within the council circle with not one of them having seen her go or return. The all sat Stunned at the feat and skill she had shown them all and it was soon agreed to give this little warrior a chance. She wasted no time flying off straight to the Sacred plant, right under the noses of the Dagul’ki geese. She flew right up to the plant without them even suspecting her being there. Quick as a wink she used her long beak to cut off the top of the plant that had a few leaves and the seeds, then off she flew straight back to the council circle.

By this time the Elder woman was thought to have died, but smoke from the Sacred tobacco plant was blown into her nostrils and with a cry of “Tsa’lu”, she opened her eyes and regained her strength.

From that day forward, all looked with favor and respect to the little Hummingbird who managed to out wit the Dagul’ku geese to return the Sacred tobacco plant back for all to use.

Even Batman Needs a Break Now and Then…

So what does he do, cause we all can’t be on Super Hero mode all of the time? Well he steps into Bruce Wayne’s shoes to be human again … Even Superman has his Kryptonite and takes a break by walking in Clark Kent’s life. So now to the question at hand…why is it so hard for us as real humans to do the same, to remember to breathe, to stop to feed our souls even if just for a day or two? Because we forget, we get so caught up in the human condition of taking care of every one and every thing that we forget about our self.

Take off the Super Hero suit, you know we all have one… go ahead you might as well admit it… Whether it is a doctor, a lawyer, a shoemaker or an Indian Chief as the saying goes, or something like it… anyway take it off for the moment and just be you. So that is what I did yesterday… I took off my imaginary Super Hero suit, I stepped out into the world quietly just for me and me alone. No computers, no phone, no tv… just me and the world.

Living in a small town not everything we want or need is easily purchased so I decided to take a run downstate since I had yet to replace one of my aquariums that was leaking. I also had made up my mind to stop in Barnes and Nobles to touch and smell real books and magazines… you know the things that we used to get or borrow from the library before the age of computers. Nothing like holding the newest comic book, the latest Best Seller or even a familiar favorite novel in your hands and experiencing it like it was the first time. I was actually surprised by the number of people that were there since I haven’t been in one for a couple of years. It was pure nerdy bliss.

So my second stop was an aquarium/pet shop, you know the old school type, The kind that are in the family for generations and not set up like a fast food joint. Since I had been in the business in my younger years, I love to go into places that aren’t driven by counter set ups and endless rows of dog food bags, or aquariums that are stacked to the ceiling, there is something more real about them… they are all unique, old school.

I found what I was looking for and was speaking with the owner, I had walked around the store and it flooded my mind with good memories of all the creatures I had experienced so long ago. Together the owner and I found we had shared many business acquaintances and friends over the years. I listened as he told me who had sold their businesses, who had passed it to other family members, who had closed their doors and even who had passed away. He shook my hand as I started to leave, and for whatever reason he blurted out words telling me he was facing cancer again and asked me to keep him in my prayers. I told him I would and gave him a hug before I departed.

After making those two stops I was prepared to head home when I realized that I not eaten in my rush to leave in the morning so I decided to treat myself to a steak and salad and stopped in at Logan’s Roadhouse. I had a great meal, was not rushing anything, harassed and had fun with some fellow diners and wait staff, and had a nice discussion with the manager. When I was walking out, two very distinguished looking gentlemen were coming in. I had my batman sweatshirt on and one of them looked and said, “Look there is Bat Girl and she is holding the door open for us. Thank you so much.” He laughed a little and told me to have a great day. A laugh… a smile… what a difference it makes when we are in our best human suits eh?

I then settled in for the drive back home. As I drove it rained, sleeted, snowed and for about five minutes father Sky even gave me some sunlight. I saw hawks, deer, some interesting advertisements, and flocks of birds raced along side my truck. At one point as one of the flocks flew alongside me it was as if time stood still. The birds twisted and turned flying up and down all together in a single unit, working together to draft and catch the air current. My thought was wow how amazing is that? If only we could as humans do the same.

When my mind came back from thoughts I heard a song on the radio about life and how we need to remember we are experiencing it and I smiled at life’s synchronicities if we would let our guard down just a smidge and see what is being shared with us to help us move along on our paths.

I did what I needed to do, I revitalized myself, took time for that extra cuppa, talked and laughed with strangers, ate a good meal, imprinted on the world as just me, a little old bear. I enjoyed myself, I took off my cape for a day so I could face the next time it needs to go back on.

So that is my wish for you all today, to take some time out to hang up your capes, to become you again. To remember just how amazing life is, how it can be if we make ourselves understand we are all humans that have the opportunity to make choices that can positively impact our life and those around us. Yup, that is right …it is Choice whether we are walking in positives or stepping in the crap of negativity. Sometimes all it takes is a moment to hang your cape up for the day, go for it you are worth it.

the Gift of an Eagle Feather…as shared by bear Medicinewalker

In the beginning the Creator gave to the Four Legged’s and Winged Ones wisdom and knowledge and the power to talk to humans. Each creature was sent to tell the people that he showed himself through them. They would teach a chosen people of all lands the sacred songs and dances as well as rituals, prayers and lore. All things that would assist the humans to walk good healthy and balanced lives.

The creature that was most loved by the Creator was the Eagle for they bring with them the story of life. In the beginning the Eagle would only lays two eggs, and all living things in the world are divided into two. There is man and woman or male and female and this is true with all of life and nature here on the planet. All things are able to have children of two kinds so that life may continue. Man has two eyes, two hands, two feet and he has a body and soul, substance and shadow.

Through our eyes we can see pleasant and unpleasant scenes, through our nostrils we are able to smell good and bad odors, with our ears we can hear beautiful music or hear words that can make us sad. Our thoughts are divided between good and bad. Our right hands are sometimes used for bad, such as war or striking a person in anger. Yet our left hand which is nearest to our hearts are full of kindness. Our right feet may lead us to the wrong paths, but our left ones always guide us to the right way. And so it goes there is daylight and darkness, summer and winter, peace and war, and life and death.

In order for us to understand and remember this lesson of life, we should look to the great eagle the favorite Winged one of the Creator. Thus the eagle feather is divided into two parts one part light the other dark. This represents daylight and darkness, summer and winter, peace and war, and life and death. So that you may remember what I have shared with you look to the favored Winged One the Eagle, for his feathers will remind you of the story of life itself.

A feather isn’t just something that falls out of the sky from a bird, it is a gift to us that symbolizes trust, honor, strength, wisdom, power, freedom and even more personal things. It can be an answer to a question, or a blessing from an Ancestor or message from some one that has passed. To be given one of these is an honor, a blessings and a privilege, it is one of the most rewarding and highest honor that the universe can share with you.

So try and recall what I have shared with you. For it is YOU and only You who will choose the path in life you will follow — the good way, or the wrong way.

“Join Me as I continue the Sacred Hoop Project into this Year 2017 “the year of Atonement”

Eagle Spirit by Steven Rushingwind available at http://www.steverushingwind.com/ and I tunes

Perhaps….

I read a comment from someone on a friend’s Facebook page today that spoke to her truths. I then read a response from someone else to her post and felt compelled to write some words to address what he was speaking to and what many across the globe are holding as their truth at this time.

I understand the frustration, the anger… and insight. Many of us feel what you are feeling. When I look at America and where it began, and where it is today… I see a lot of bloodshed, terror and people who have struggled and still struggle today. I also see centuries of hate and bigotry, and when it all began people coming from other places to our shores fighting to get a piece of it.

We sit and argue because President Trump has done what many couldn’t or would not do… he pulled off the rug on what has been swept under it for a very long time. What was underneath is that we have not grown as people who wanted to put blinders on us all, or that we have not progressed with humanity as they would like us to think. We are no longer using “Political Correctness” Which is fine by me… I thought not dealing with emotions would eventually cause a powder keg anyway… and oh look it has done just that.

However the question of “Who are Americans?” we are the same people that our Ancestors were, people who are struggling for their own personal desires. So have we learned anything?

Well lets take a short look at this, my Ancestors where the Original People, and we welcomed everyone in… to be followed by my Ancestors being stripped of all they owned, all of their way of life, they were lied to over and over by the government and still are today. It took until Native American Free Exercise of Religion Act of 1993 To Assure Religious Freedom to Native Americans. AND NATIVE AMERICANS WERE the Original People in what is now considered the United States. Think about that for a moment… everyone else could practice religion any way they wanted to… but the Native Americans could not.

There will always be people who hold hate, racism, and other negatives within them. As will there always be people who harm others, war with others. Who says it is right for the United States to involve themselves in other countries battles when they have not been able to achieve a peaceful and positive solutions to their own problems? So put yourself in the place of immigrants seeking a better life or immigrants wanting to lash out at the power that has destroyed their own homes in their own countries… and I am not saying they are right anymore than I am saying we are right. I am simply pointing out that we can look from our point of view, their point of view and that what lies in between the two is often the cold hard truth of the matter.

So my point is this…. What is fair? Fair should be that we find our Humanity again, that we take care of our own yards before stepping into others. Fair should be that every human has a right to practice their own way of life, even when it does not line up with others beliefs. We all are born with free will and have the ability to choose.

We all need to put the swords down verbal or otherwise if they harm others, they are weapons to show superiority, they are of Ego stepping in. Think about it, if we all spent the time and energy that we do spewing and acting out in negatives …caring for self, caring for others, caring for the Great Mother Earth… perhaps we would find our compassion and humanity once again. Perhaps we could be happier people…. Yup perhaps…

It is not enough merely to learn the ways of our Elders. We must honor those traditions by sharing and educating the World. Inspiring others …Inspiring our Youth. Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – Beaver

So the Beaver stops in again today showing us that we can build whatever reality we want to for ourselves. reminding us that what we put out into the world is often what comes back. So step lightly, build strongly, and stay in a positive state of mind. Be Precise in our thoughts, words and deeds as the Universe will answer in ways that often we can not even fathom, so keep it inline with the highest good for yourself and others around you.

Beaver tells us to step outside the negative cycles and break them by moving through them in positive ways, respectful ways, with humility and gratefulness… the way our Ancestral Teachings were given to us… Keep to the honest and loving ways we were taught as young ones, find your compassion and humanity again and make it stronger.

Beaver shares that it is time to build our dreams into reality teaching us that we need to remember to rely on self, but in the process not to loose the sense of family that leads us to being an important part of community. Traditions and culture both help to build the strong foundations of who we are as individuals.

Do not be afraid to push and build your dreams into reality. Beaver reminds us to be creative, use the strong foundations that have been laid into place and grow from that. Expand your thoughts, your abilities enabling you to grow into a new sense of being. Clear the old and replace it with newer and stronger ties reinforcing who we are and where we came from.

Beaver will teach us if we allow it to, when to build up the walls to protect and rest, but also teaches us to remember to clean and change as we need to, flowing with the patterns of life. Adaptability so we do not get forced into situations we should not or do not want to be in. Always look at alternatives for there are many ways to go about things.

Beaver reminds us that it is good to be creative, to stay busy …but to also remember teamwork gets the job done quicker at times. So stop for a moment to catch your breath and look at what is going on in your life at the moment, and move forward in a positive way, utilizing all the tools and assets that have been placed in front of you, remembering that all parts of life are needed to do so.

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – Bear

The Bear says it’s time to do a little introspect today. Time to go within to understand that healing often begins from within ourselves as we look to the things we have hidden in the shadows of our souls. While we are doing that remember as we walk with a bear… as a bear it is often alone, for that is our nature. Yet even bears at times need to clean house, to play and frolic with others, for in doing so we find purpose in our walks. So today we must learn to take time to feed our souls energy, feed our spirituality, our creativity and honor the natural order that life brings to our doors.

Bear is all about fertility (creative and manifestation), instinct, protection and solitude. Those that walk with Bear are often somewhat reclusive requiring a great deal of personal space to renew and create. Bear people will often “disconnect” for awhile as they pursue projects becoming deeply involved in what they are working on. Deeply protective and territorial, Bear also is extremely loyal and dependable.

Bear teaches us when healing of any sort is needed to use that time for introspective work in order to grow Spiritually, Emotionally, Mentally and find answers to problems within yourself. Travel deep into your soul find the purpose in your own path and journey and walk ahead in positive steps.

Bear shares with us that in this time hibernation is not only good but needed, yet respect our natural hibernation cycle and remember to reawaken in the spring, in doing so awaken the potential within ourselves and the power of our unconscious mind.

Bear teaches us there is a time for playfulness and a time to be assertive, and perhaps a time for both in balance.

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – Elephant

The Grand Dame of the Animal Kingdom, the Elephant stops in today honoring us with some shared wisdom’s asking us all, “How do you define family?” Family is often more than merely born into or shared genetics. And it is time to acknowledge our spiritual families and people that mean the most to us. it is time to look at self and remember where our loyalty should lie, who it is that supports us and is there effortlessly. It is time to get in touch with our inner child and our inner elder, for we have been taught much but due to the chaos of days, it has been often set aside.

Today honor relationships, the ones that have imprinted on our souls… the ones we wish we coulda, shoulda, woulda… said or shown gratitude for and throw some tobacco, a prayer to the Sacred Winds for what was not. Balance the debt even if it is in what seems like a small way.

Elephant brings with it determination and loyalty that are needed to walk through our human. Not to give up easily for if we stay the course smartly, our goals will be met. Elephant reminds us all we must look after ourselves first before can help others, and to follow our instincts they will show us where we need to go and what we need to nourish within our souls.

Family is an important aspect and to remember to focus on the very young and our Elders, it is our duty to care for both. Loyalty is another trait the Elephant brings out in us, reminding us ever so gently that sometimes we need to remain loyal in spite of difficult circumstances in all situations, for all will be made clear as we move ahead in positive steps.

Elephant communicates with its family intuitively and suggests that there is a memory that is being held on to tightly that needs to be let go, let go of the past, it is what has assisted us to this point, but needs to remain in the past.

Elephant is reminding us about gentleness, commitment, and communication for ourselves and all relationships in and about our own Sacred Hoops. That all of it is powerful medicine much needed as it helps us to keep relationships healthy.
