Spiritual and Totem Insights of the Day – Sacred Sweetgrass

Today’s card that showed itself in the 7th spot was Sacred Sweetgrass and it speaks to how we walk our walk, and how we talk our talk. It is wiser and much more thoughtful to speak and act if we pause and take a breath…look to the larger scope of things so that we may react in positives. take a deep breath in of the fragrance of the Sweetgrass itself and allow it to not only clear your thoughts, but to clear your space of negativity, as we all know it is much easier to follow others without thought, but it is much more honorable to be a example of what is right.

So today, honor the being that is you and do not let shadows play in your hearts. Understand that outside influences will be focusing on negatives today… so allow the air to be cleared before adding fuel to a fire that you did not start.

Associated with the element of Air. The botanical name for Sweetgrass is Heirochloe odorata, currently growing mainly in the plains across the United States and on up into Canada. The plant can induce a soporific effect and have been used in meditation and shamanistic rituals with the belief that it has some mild psychotropic properties.

Native People believe that Sweetgrass is the first plant that covered the Great Mother Earth. It is viewed as Sacred often using this plant for religious purposes such as making incense and calling spirits as well as to aid us during fasting. Drawing in positive vibrational energy along with purification it drives away the negative spirits and energies while the sweetness draws in the positive energies and spirits to assist us and guide us in the right ways.

When we use Sweetgrass for smudging drawing in positive energies it changes the energy of one’s space and being. Traditionally you will see the Sweetgrass twisted into braids commercially, and sometimes in smudge packages…I have braids in the rooms of my home and among my sacred objects.  I often add clippings into my own smudge mixture with the White Sage, for it adds purification to the intention and space.

Sweetgrass can instantly change the energy surrounding one’s physical body and environment while improving our emotional state, bringing it to a renewed perspective. It draws the feelings of abundance and uplifts our spirits as it invades our senses. It also provides a positive energy to our auric fields and is useful as we perform energy work or healing practices. Used when you need to balance or are in need of comfort, it will bring calmness and peace to your thoughts. I have found it to immediately give me a sense of empowerment, of clarity, and the ability to refocus my thoughts in order to gain a better perspective from a more positive place.

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – the Turtle

Turtle stops in this day to tell us that some days we need to slow down and pull back from negatives and chaos if for no other reason than self preservation. To take time to care for self. Situations can pop up whether directly or around our world that causes our emotions and thoughts to stagger… and when it does when need to honor those feelings in order for us to be capable of handling and coping with stress.

Then when the time is right and balance of self has occurred we can stretch our emotional selves back out as we once again walk forward in positives having created that harder…tougher outer shell. To take time to do this is okay, and we need to remind ourselves that it is not selfish… it is okay, for we need to be able to have the skill set to take care of our own life if we are ever to have good relationships and balance in the rest of our Sacred Circles.

Turtle teaches us that we need to remember to walk our paths slow and steady with determination, for if we do our goals will surely be met. They remind us that sometimes it is best to walk on solid ground strong and precise with each step, and at other times it is better to dive into the waters and swim with the current allowing life to assist us in that forward motion.

Turtle helps us to ground reminding us that slowing down and pacing each step will help us build confidence for as we walk at this pace, we will see more of what is being shared with us by the world around us… knowledge of the “Old Ones”. Slowing our pace, calming our breath, listening to our heartbeat, centering our spirit so that we are in balance and sync with the rest of our world.

Turtles remind us that what we need is provided for us, that we need to remember the beginning, the simple and honor all that is Sacred, for it is part of who we all are. Be humble, grateful and make the most of what we have and what we are offered.

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – the Praying Mantis

Praying Mantis asks us All today, what is Sacred to you? Have you fed your Spiritual lately? Have you allowed your Soul to Sing and Dance in Joy recently? Well if you are pondering these questions the answer is most likely no, which means it’s time to slow down and take care of it all so we remain in balance with not only ourselves but with the world around us.

Praying Mantis also reminds us this day that as Humans we need to walk hand in hand with this amazing world we share with so many… Not only others like us, but ALL Creatures and Life that are part of the Great Mother Earth. We need to remember that even the smallest pebble, the tiniest blade of grass have purpose in the Great Sacred Circle, and it is up to each of us to keep it protected and safe. Just as it is the same with each other… we must keep each other protected and safe from all the negatives in this world.

Praying Mantis shares that we have gotten lost in the daily activity and chaos of our own lives. That we have forgotten to listen to our own voice. With that said it is time to take a step back and breathe in the 7 Sacred breathes. Reground, replenish what we have given away to this moment. Possibly do some simple meditation to recenter ourselves and remember our true self, our true path. Take a moment and breathe, look at all that is Sacred around us. the beauty of even the simplest thing or thought. Time to contemplate before stepping back into life. By doing this you will rekindle the purpose and meaning that are needed at this time.

Praying Mantis teaches us to return to the core of who we are born as. To step on our path with thoughtful placement of how we will imprint ourselves into the world around us. To carefully consider how we will move forward in positives and be prepared to step quickly and decisively when we need to. It is time to listen to our intuition, do not push it away it has guided you through your life sometimes without us realizing. Trust what you are sensing, what you are feeling and move or stand accordingly to that inner voice.

It is not enough merely to learn the ways of our Elders. We must honor those traditions by sharing and educating the World. Inspiring others …Inspiring our Youth. Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – the Raven

Raven shows up today asking us if we are “Truly” listening to what our Souls are attempting to tell us? Are we “Honestly” hearing what our Ancestors are whispering and not having to go through the same lessons over and over again? We often ask for guidance, we ask for Divine Intervention, assistance but because we do not want to put the work in we need to, we dismiss the whispers of guidance. Yet we continue to ask hoping that eventually we will 1-get the response we want (even though it may not the response that is needed) or 2-we will somehow be able to justify our missteps in life. However we need to stop and ask ourselves if we are walking with our best of who we are or simply skipping through it all uncaring of what is truly happening in our world of our own Sacred Hoop.

So Raven is here today to tell us to step up into who we are meant to be… Step into doing the right thing… and let your Soul show its true self for others to see and inspire them to be their best as well. Honor the Sacred… Honor the true foundations of who we are meant to be.

Magical …Mystical.. slipping to time beyond time … Often I hear people say, where are the miracles, where is the magic, and I tell them it is but at your fingertips if you will but open your eyes! We need to remember that we all have abilities and they are all unique. yet with saying that we are all part of the puzzle and without us, life would not be complete. Remember that the next time you look into a mirror, or start to doubt what and who you are. Embrace yourselves in positives, and if you don’t..the Ravens will pop in and start squawking at yah until you do.

Raven is here to tell us that we are exactly where we need to be at the precise moment in time. We are also being shown things that are in and around our Sacred Hoops are reflecting back to us what we need to learn about ourselves in order to move in positive motion ahead on our paths.

Raven teaches us about rebirth, recovery, renew and recycling, self reflection and healing our inner spiritual. Shine our light into the dark as we transition in to the change we are facing. Open our thought process to help us understand that there needs to be balance between light and the dark … that one does not occur without the other. To know one is to know the other, to understand them is to balance self.

Raven teaches us to listen closer to the world of spirit, for they are guiding us forward, helping us to remember what is important, what is sacred. That our souls can not take the material with us as we move and transition through life, but rather that it is the intangible things that imprint on us and we imprint on others that are most important.

Allow that magic to spread to your soul and enlighten your spiritual.

Blessings to All,

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – the Crocodile

Crocodile stops in today to tell us to armor up for at times today as words and actions may gear you towards stepping into battle mode. But instead we need to use them as teaching moments for ourselves and others. Constructive and Respectful moments. In today’s more than not hostile environment, people have forgotten how to be civil, polite, and above all not to take offense when someone states an opinion! We need to toughen up and learn to roll with it all. Pick and choose the battles of the day as not to be pulled down in the muck of negativity!

Personally like the Crocs I would prefer to sit out and bake in the sun and just be in the moment, how bout you guys?

The Crocodile is one of the oldest creatures and has been around for ions. The wisdom and survival skill it has taken for them to live through centuries of change is something we should look closely at as they are here to teach us as human as well. Crocodile teaches us sometimes we need to reach deep within to our primal energy, things that are instinctive to move through our paths. It speaks to us of our breathing patterns to take time to take that deep breath in order to bring balance to our minds and bodies.

Crocodile is a protector and keeper of All Knowledge. So it is time to tap into what it is we need in order to inspire, manifest and walk our dreams and ambitions. Remember patience and to allow yourself time to adapt to change that may show up in your life at this time. It is a time of growth and regeneration. It is time to expand and use what you instinctively know for emotional healing, for self and perhaps even to those that you may encounter in your days.

Crocodile speaks to knowing when to roll with what life throws at us, when to show patience, when to dig deep and when it is time to wallow in mud to allow healing and regeneration, transformation to bring about healing and a new part to our journeys.  Honor your soul’s journey, from other lifetimes into our current path and continuing on as we gather energies and knowledge moving forward in positives to experience life in many forms.

Blessings to All,

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – the Elk

Elk steps in today  reassuring us that stepping in positive steps will always assist in the outcome. Take time today to slow down and let the energy flow through the day in an easy and gentle way. Things will get done regardless and working through things in a more thoughtful manner, conscious of what we are creating and manifesting helps us to achieve those goals we have set. Why rush through it all…? Seriously take time to enjoy and work the process. if we do as we are supposed to do, meant to do…the outcome will be more positive than if we rush through things blindly, forgetting that sometimes the best way to get there is to journey the journey.

Elk brings in the energy that is needed to slow down and pace ourselves. It’s all about seeing the goal and reaching it without killing ourselves and depleting our energy in the process. Elk helps us to understand that we do not have to do it alone and that companionship and group support are available we just have to ask. Elk signifies abundance and is a sign that all we need will be provided for. To remember that we do not need to rush, for sometimes the reward is in the journey itself. .

Elk symbolizes strength and endurance. It teaches us to spend more time with our families and friends. Elk are also very seldom alone, preferring to live in large herds, yet knowing when they need to have some personal space. They are very well prepared to take on a challenge, they can fight passionately about what is important to them, sometimes can be unpredictable being passive one second and aggressive the next, it is their nature.

Believe in yourself…Empower Yourself…Connect with those you love and hold a good sense of Community… and your goals will be met with positive outcome.

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – Corn

corn 1122
Corn shares with us that today is about foundations, making them strong so that they last and can continue to provide in positive ways for the generations to come. Making the right decision is often a task and a difficult one at times. Yet we all should take a moment or two before we speak, step or share to make sure it is in a way that will strengthen that foundation and not break it down.

Often we are put to task and share opinions that are not of good foundations, we are all quick to stand and throw words all to easy, forgetting we are all human and imperfect.

So today take some time to ground yourselves, planting good intentions, sharing insights that will help people achieve their highest goodness as human…

Corn the symbol of sustenance, standing tall for All of life. Corn is considered a gift from the Creator as a food, often used in ceremony. Corn has been part of the Hopi people as they have much skill in being able to grow it in desert sand. Corn Pollen is a blessing used for protection, understanding and forgiveness. Used when doing prayer, in house blessings, and to bless the peoples. Cornmeal, ground from white corn, is considered sacred and is used in blessings as well.

Corn can be easily stored and preserved during the cold winter months, can also be dried to use later. During the time of the Ancestors and in the present dried corn can be made into hominy by soaking corn in water until the kernels split open, then drained and fried over a fire. The husks are also used as they can be braided, made into masks, sleeping mats, baskets and one of my favorites and is truly a work of art … the corn husk dolls. All that remains is the corncob, and these can be used to burn as fuel.

The Corn Maiden gives of her own body to feed her family and provides seeds which ensure a continued source of food. The following is one of my favorite stories, and shows of the importance of all life and of the Eldest Sister … Corn.

The Story of the Three Sisters of the Plant People
Long ago there were three sisters who lived together in an endless field. To look at them one could see that they were very different from each other in every way, yet they were Sisters none the less.

The youngest of the three was very young and was only able to crawl. They had dressed her in the bright and beautiful color of green. The middle sister could be seen to wear a bright yellow dress and she often would run off to play when Father Sun shared his light and gentle winds raced the lands. The oldest sister could be found standing straight and tall above her sisters in order to keep watch over them. She was dressed in a pale green shawl and her hair that was a soft pale yellow could often be seen gently blowing across her face as she stood high upon the field. The one way in which they were all the same was how they were connected. They loved each other with all their hearts, they were family and they stayed together as such. This created a bond that made them very, very strong.

One day a stranger happened along and came to visit the home of the Three Sisters. It was a young boy from the nearby village. They watched him as he spoke with the winged ones, the four leggeds and others that were Sacred to the Sisters. This warmed their hearts and made them smile. That summer the young boy returned, spent the day and when he was gone the youngest sister had disappeared. Her sisters cried and didn’t know what had happened to her. In the days to come the young boy of the village returned to gather the sacred sweetgrass that grew at the water’s edge. The two remaining sisters watched as his feet left their trail in the soft earth back towards his village.

That evening as Grandmother Moon spread her blanket across the sky, the oldest sister discovered that her middle sister had disappeared as well. She stood and wept for her loss. Now the older sister was left alone but she continued to stand tall in the field. Soon the young boy came back and upon seeing how much she missed her sisters he gathered her up and took her to be back with her sisters, understanding that together the love they had for each other was strong and it was what created family.

The Three Sisters are represented as…
Sister Bean
Sister Bean is dressed all in green. At first when she was young she could only crawl. Now as she grows, she clings to and leans on her Sister Corn for support. In return, Sister Bean gives her sister the nutrients she needs to grow.

Sister Squash
The middle sister is Sister Squash although sometimes she is called Pumpkin. She wears a bright, sunshine yellow dress and a golden crown and sits at the feet of her older sisters. She is much shorter than her sisters and her large leaves help keep the weeds away and the soil moist. Her vines are prickly and help to keep unwanted animals away from her sisters.

Sister Corn
The eldest is Sister Corn. She wears a pale green shawl and has silken hair that rustles when the wind blows through it. She grows tall and strong and allows her sister to lean on her for support. She keeps watch over her sisters, looking for danger and warning them.

This also creates a strong foundation for our gardens, the mainstay staples that will provide nutrition to our families.
