Chicken Fingers, Cheesy Rice and Tomato Tortellini Soup…

Ms Rosa

As most people know, February is Black History Month, and as I awoke this morning I heard a sweet soft and familiar voice in my head, so I agreed and I will once again share our story.

As some of you may or may not know I worked at Children’s Hospital of Detroit, MI for many years. The best job ever…the worst job ever. But all in all it was an amazing place to work in filled with even more amazing people that will forever hold special places in my memories and heart. I mainly worked the afternoon shift, and that is when I met one of those people that will always be first and foremost one of the most gentle and sweet people I have ever met.

I worked mainly in the ICU and Hemoc units of the hospital and usually took my breaks for dinner around 5:00 p.m. since all the cafeterias would close by 7:00 p.m. in the evenings. We had a choice of which hospital to eat at because they were connected through a grouping of underground tunnels. The Detroit Medical Center is sort of massive and you truly get exercise working there. Sometimes I would go to dinner and sit with my co-workers, other times I would head off later due to what was going on in the unit so would catch them as they were returning winding up eating by myself. I mostly brought my own food from home that I prepared before heading into work and mainly sitting in the cafeteria to give myself a break, use the microwave and basically just chill for 45 minutes. This was one of those days I was eating by myself.

Sitting at a table in Receiving Hospital I looked up and saw an Elder struggling with her food tray, so I immediately got up to assist her. She smiled and thanked me. She was so tiny in stature but made up for it with the twinkling light in her eyes. I asked her if she would like to sit with me and she quickly agreed. I put her tray down and we began to talk with each other, when the microwave beeped I excused myself to go and grab my food and when I returned, she says mmmmhmmm that looks delicious. I asked her if she would like to share some with me for I had plenty and she nodded yes. I said nothing special just chicken fingers, cheesy rice and tomato tortellini soup. She told me it looked like a feast, we both laughed.

She introduced herself as Ms. Rosa and I introduced myself. She asked me of my medicine pouch that I always had hanging around my neck, told me it looked like something the “injuns” wore down home. I laughed and said probably right explaining in the process its meaning. She looked up at me and said hmmm, I like that. She was 82 years young she told me…and I was a young one she said at 34 years old. We smiled often and laughed a lot. And when I asked her if she wanted me to cook her something special she said I like just what we had and so began a ritual we would have every week.

A few months went by as we got to know each other better, mostly talking of gardening, and of family, she asked to see the pictures of my daughter. We spoke of life good and the ugly side of it, we spoke of the old neighborhoods which I grew up in and still lived in, times when neighbors depended on each other and treated each other as family… and sometimes just sitting with each other in the perfect silence of our company. Once she said to me,” Remember the good things but never forget the bad… for it makes us stronger and better people.’ I agreed and just remember my heart felt so much love for this little tiny Elder that shared a meal here and there with me. I was grateful for the time, grateful for her friendship.

One particular afternoon we were sitting having our usual dinner together when one of my co-workers walked up with a goofy look on her face. She said “Hi” and I said hello back and introduced her to Ms. Rosa invited her to sit with us. She was all nervous and giggly and said no she had to head back and would catch me later. We continued our break and gave each other a hug and off we went back to our jobs… Ms. Rosa doing her volunteering and me to my unit.

Soon my co-worker came to find me and was all excited again. “Girl do you know who that was?” To which I replied that of course I did it was Ms. Rosa and we ate dinner together often why? She laughed and gave me that look again, she said, “It sure is Ms. Rosa…it’s Ms. Rosa Parks… the Rosa Parks.” The knowledge of her last name did not change my opinion of her, it did not make me feel more or less love for her… for she was an amazing Human being no matter of the history. See, you never know who you may run into, share a meal with, a seat, space or words with. Learn to appreciate every moment, for they imprint on us good, bad and indifferent.

To this day I treasure the memory of the meals of Chicken Fingers, Cheesy Rice and Tomato Tortellini Soup shared with an Elder Ms. Rosa because she is part of the people that walk with me and molded me into who I am today.

February 24, 2016 Totem Card of the Day – 3 Card Pull!

3 card pull totems
So today “Spirit” says lets shake it up a bit by sharing 3 cards with everyone, and then lets see if they listen or not.

The first card that drops is intertwined with our Spiritual needs and is the Eagle!  Today is all about taking care of the spiritual side of things that we all may be neglecting because we are so caught up in the world around us.  The Eagle soars close to Creator and brings us the message to not only take time… but to MAKE time to feed our spiritual self.  We all need to remember this is important to our health and balance.   It is not merely enough to talk the talk, we must ALL walk the walk.   Stay strong within our own Sacred Hoops by remembering to honor ourselves and all things Sacred!

Squirrel stops in to chatter in my ears today to tell us to tend to our Own needs and houses.  Stop looking at everyone else’s and clean up our own messes!  Set our own lives to order is the task that Squirrel is reminding us to do as he parades past us with the Eagle!  Gather the tools and wisdom you need to get that task done and then move forward in positives, leaving the clutter and negatives behind you to filter through the compost pile to be birthed to positives at another time.  Squirrel reminds us… Release, Recycle, Renew!

Then the Bear steps up to remind us we need to rest, to allow our souls to do all of the above and more! Honor those directions! Honor all that is Sacred! Learn to walk on our paths and enjoy life as it was meant to be enjoyed. Look at even the smallest joys, miracles… for they are all part of the great world we live in. Take time to appreciate what we already have, rather than plundering what we truly don’t need at the moment. All in it’s perfect time, with Faith and patience the Bear reminds us we have got this walk on this good road we are living.

card 32 Eagle 1122
Eagle speaks to us of our spiritual paths. I have been taught that the Eagle can fly to the heavens, that its wings can be touched by God Creator. When in it’s presence I feel the Grace of the Creator and All that is Sacred. The Eagle humbles me.

Teaching us to reflect and pause, to rejoice and reconnect to our spirits. To honor our paths, the ethics we have been taught. To Pray, to honor to live in a sacred manner. To listen to our Ancestors that have walked before us and in doing so listen to the wisdoms that have been shared so that we can walk more positive paths. Eagles the symbol of Courage and strength, to do … to walk… the right manner. To take that courage and step into what you re meant to step to in a positive way, and allowing our spirits to soar to the heights to share in God Creator’s extended grace.

Eagles with their sharp eyesight take us to the heights to observe situations in a manner that is more beneficial for us to make clear decisions. To become that visionary and push ourselves to discover and accept self, to accept truths, adapting , changing and growing along the way. The medicine Eagle shares is, the ability to connect to the Divine, a power of God Creator. Being able to place one foot into the spirit realm and yet remain connected and balanced with Mother Earth. So Honor your Spirit today and everyday by connecting with the Sacredness around you!

card 43 Squirrel 1122
Squirrel reminds us today of one major lesson and that is to remember always that “We reap what we have sown.” No matter how hard sometimes we try to forget our part in something, a relationship that has hit a bump in the road or a job issue that you are struggling at, or something positive like many blessings showing up at your door, the outcomes always have an imprint from us as it traveled around and back to us. Why we ask? The Squirrel replies, “Because we are all related!”

It also tells us to prepare for change, for if we are working hard to achieve something it will undoubtedly involve change of some kind, and often we forget that part and are caught unprepared. Squirrel also reminds us that through the changes things that no longer serve us, people that no longer are on the same path as us may get lost from us on the way. But we need to remember that they all had purpose and honor whatever lesson or purpose that may have been, and discard any of them including worries, stress and thoughts as you walk forward. Squirrel teaches us that we need to be resourceful at times in order to manifest what we need. Don’t attempt to do to many things at once, rather try and keep a healthy balance between work and play it helps our mental states stay healthy.

Make sure we are paying attention to opportunity that may present itself, share and play nice with others, but to remember in doing so to not forget to take care of ourselves in that process. So break out of your shell today and take care of what you need to , whether that is play or work… but always with a positive breath!

card 24 bear 1122
Bear is all about fertility (creative and manifestation), instinct, protection and solitude. Those that walk with Bear are often somewhat reclusive requiring a great deal of personal space to renew and create. Bear people will often “disconnect” for awhile as they pursue projects becoming deeply involved in what they are working on. Deeply protective and territorial, Bear also is extremely loyal and dependable. Bear teaches us when healing of any sort is needed to use that time for introspective work in order to grow Spiritually, Emotionally, Mentally and find answers to problems within yourself. Travel deep into your soul find the purpose in your own path and journey and walk ahead in positive steps.

Bear shares with us that in this time hibernation is not only good but needed, yet respect our natural hibernation cycle and remember to reawaken in the spring, in doing so awaken the potential within ourselves and the power of our unconscious mind. Bear teaches us there is a time for playfulness and a time to be assertive, and perhaps a time for both in balance.

February 23, 2016 Totem Card of the Day – Dragonfly

card 28 Dragonfly 1122
For many the energy about lately has been somewhat ‘trippy” and Dragonfly stops in this day to share what is up with it all! The simple fact is we are all tuning in to “Spirit” and the layers we put between the parallels, on a more regular basis. We each are like tuning forks and the frequency we each need to “tune” into is finally reaching our soul. We are receiving guidance that we can no longer dismiss, whether it is prayers that we put out to be answered or guidance that we silently seek as to what our next step should be on our paths…

The Dragonfly represents the link between All that is Sacred! so from this point forward… open your souls to feel, hear and understand the magical connections that we can have if we simply do not place limits on what is!

Dragonfly is all about transformation and adaptability. It is messenger of the in between, of here and there and everywhere at the same time. It is beyond time, before time. It is about darkness to light and back again. Dragonfly tells us that everything is in a cycle, so remember and allow more joy to fill your soul. To help you understand that all things are as they should be, and that life itself is magical beyond belief. For our souls do not hold form, and our human self just helps them to experience our earth walks before continuing to the next part of our journeys.

Dragonflies begin their lives in water and then as they grow they move into the air learning to fly. It teaches us to balance the present time and accept it so we may once again move forward, listening as Spirit shares with us all the secrets of here and beyond.

February 19, 2016 Totem Card of the Day – Racoon

card 41 racoon 1122
Who’s that knocking on your door??? Why it’s Racoon of course and they are here to share that sometimes hiding behind the mask instead of engaging with life doesn’t win us points! Sometimes we need to utilize the tools that we have gathered here and there to obtain the goal we are seeking. That we need to be a champion of our own cause today! Not letting everyone else distract us from the task at hand.

Raccoon teaches us to re-connect with our inner warrior, to become both provider and protector for ourselves and possibly others within our Sacred Hoop. However while assisting others, Raccoon teaches us that we must in this process, learn to do this in a way that does not make those you are helping become dependent on your help. When dealing with issues the Raccoon leaves no stone unturned. Patiently and diligently seek the solution by taking the time needed to observe the whole picture, both the seen and the unseen to find a positive solution.

Raccoon’s are also the masters of curiosity, adaptability, resourcefulness, masks or illusion. They also speak of hiding behind and not being open an honest with your self. Learn to be more open and accept the gifts being offered to you right now by the universe. Be more versatile and watch for opportunity by being more aware of your surroundings and what is happening in and around your own Sacred Hoop. Raccoon teaches us that as human we wear many masks in life and sometimes feel the need to hide our true self as protection or to hide from the reality of a situation. Just remember it is okay to do that for a short time, but do not get lost behind that mask, for we all have purpose, we all have meaning in this walk we are on.

So go out and be a Warrior… a Champion of You today and remember to Enjoy Life along the Way! Hoka Hey!

Shall We Dance…

Shall we dance

For those of you that know me, you know I do not believe in coincidence. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING has reason and purpose, down to the smallest little event or nuance. Today is no exception. Yesterday I Posted the Totem Card of the Day as the Grouse. The message was loud and clear… Pay attention to the positives in your life, open your soul to Joy, Happiness, and all life shares with us as we walk the Human!

For some of you, you may not know I am a Spiritual Empath, a Medium and a Seer… whatever you want to label it… I see and hear Dead People, Spirit and have since I can remember. I see events past and present, I can see, hear and feel things there is no explanation for other than it is. It is both a Blessings and a curse. However at this point of my life no matter how one labels it, it is part of who I am 24/7 like it or not.

So back to the “Not A Coincidence” part. As I finished my day and went about the task of sleeping I was pulled as I often am into a dreamwalk, a bit different from a dream as it is always Spirits way of communicating with me, I am conscious of things in the physical world yet I am in meditation or dream state. Sort of like being in the in-between worlds as I call walking the realms of different realities and parallels. In it I saw many people and received many messages for self and others. However one stood out and that was the smile from my Dad, the man that took me into his home and heart, raised me and taught me anything was possible if you worked hard enough for it.

He spoke of many things to which I listened and then he reached, took my hand, stood me up and danced with me. He told me he was proud of me and his beautiful grand daughter whom he had never met in the physical world, and told me to remember to always Dance! He hugged me, told me he loved me one last time and said, “til next time daughter.” I woke out of that place of dreamwalk, glanced at the clock and it said 3:18 a.m., to which I sighed and snuggled under the covers, thankful for the Blessing of the gift that Creator gave me.

Reality of the day starts early for me, and soon it was time to get up and walk my dog Boone for his morning walk about. Being blind and deaf it has become a chore that we both look forward to most mornings, for now I am his helper; it was 6:00 a.m. We went out and breathed in the wonderfully crisp air and walked around occasionally stopping as he made snow angels in the fresh snow. We came back in, I prepared his breakfast, turned the faucet on for Freckles, fed the two other cats and set about the task of feeding the fish in the 6 aquariums I have in the house, pretty routine for me. When I got to the living room I opened the blinds to allow light in for the plants and my eye caught something on the coffee table. When I stopped to take a closer look, I was sort of blown away for it was validation that what I walked the night before did truly happen.

There under my tea cup was a picture that I still have no comprehension as to how it got there. It was a picture from my wedding 25 years ago of my Dad and I dancing. Since I have no photo albums in the living room or the fact any wedding pictures from that time anywhere other than stored away boxes, I both stopped to smile and cry at the same time, as I stood there I could hear one of my parents favorite songs, “Shall We Dance” from a time when Music was more than amazing.  So you see Life is like a Dance, we have to put a little Faith in ourselves, open our hearts and take that first step!

So you see I hope that sheds a little light into the fact that those that have walked before can still reach us and validate they are there for us even when we don’t always see them in the physical. There are never coincidences, and when you need that little extra something just put it out there and then open your souls to the possibilities! Who knows, perhaps someone will reach out and ask you the same thing… “Shall We Dance?”

Please Feel free to share these and other posts from my site!  They are here as tools to teach us about mending the Hoop… and bringing balance to our lives!

February 18, 2016 Totem Card of the Day – Owl

card 22 Owl 1122
How fitting today that Owl shares Her Magic with us All this day!  She is urging us to look at a larger picture with clarity and truth. Take a minute to visit your past through thought and honor all those that walked with us while we have been on our journey! All where there for reason and purpose. All impact, imprint and have left pieces of themselves on our soul. Owl urges us to see the positives in all and understand that we are who we are today because we have walked through fire, rain to get to the place we are at today!

Fire to ignite us to our souls purpose… Rain to help us grow with the positives and renewal for that same Soul purpose… to Live life, Experience Life, to be HUMAN!

Owl brings both Magical and Spiritual with it’s presence. always Sacred to me, and to be revered by all. It shares with us the Great Mystery and all that is to be understood in life as we walk the human path. Teaching us to be open and see with wonderment the life that is around us, interacting with us, sharing with us, part of us even in the smallest of ways. In return showing us how we can impact it all in return. To keep our eyes open in even in what we may perceive as dark times, for that glimmer of hope and light to shine through.

Remember to fly beyond and look at the larger picture so better to plan ahead how to approach situations, people or the journey itself. It teaches us to use our intuition and deep connections with wisdom that has been seeded deep within our souls. If he has showed up in your life today… perhaps you need to look closer for the hidden truths.

Please Feel free to share these and other posts from my site!  They are here as tools to teach us about mending the Hoop… and bringing balance to our lives!

February 17, 2016 Totem Card of the Day – Grouse

card 14 Grouse 1122

Rejoice …Sing…and Dance with Life today. Remember who You are… Relish in what the Universe is sharing with you! Move through the day in Positives, dismissing and not allowing negatives to enter you Sacred Hoops… We are the sum of what we put out into the world… so why not make it Joy and Happiness! Now I want you all to understand that the reason the Native Peoples dance is to honor and celebrate Creator, our Ancestors… our Veterans… it is a way to teach the Sacred… to honor who we are as a people. It is a way to honor the blessings of our way of life. The Drum the Heartbeat of the People and the Great Mother Earth and all our relations…
.
Grouse reminds us of what is Sacred within our own Hoops. It reminds us to stand in our own power, to drum and ground with the great Mother Earth, to experience our own heartbeats of our souls. Speaking to us and whispering that we need to dance and honor our own spirits, allowing the joys that are in life to enter and filling our own Sacred Hoops with the positives that are needed in the moment and beyond.

Grouse dances in circles, speaking to us of cycles that we walk through on our paths, from birth to death transitions and on to rebirth. We all experience these, from the moment we take our first breath, it is called change. So the Grouse asks that we embrace those changes,,, and dance to the drumbeat of your own soul! Stand in your own power, revitalize your spirit, your human… dance and create, manifest what it is that you need to walk a more positive way on your own path. Don’t worry about what others are thinking or doing… concentrate on your own energy as you dance and place yourself in harmony and balance with body, mind and spirit.

Listen and hear as Grouse shares with us today and beats it’s wings and stomps the ground in harmony with all that is Sacred!
Aho!
