Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – the Elk

Elk steps in today  reassuring us that stepping in positive steps will always assist in the outcome. Take time today to slow down and let the energy flow through the day in an easy and gentle way. Things will get done regardless and working through things in a more thoughtful manner, conscious of what we are creating and manifesting helps us to achieve those goals we have set. Why rush through it all…? Seriously take time to enjoy and work the process. if we do as we are supposed to do, meant to do…the outcome will be more positive than if we rush through things blindly, forgetting that sometimes the best way to get there is to journey the journey.

Elk brings in the energy that is needed to slow down and pace ourselves. It’s all about seeing the goal and reaching it without killing ourselves and depleting our energy in the process. Elk helps us to understand that we do not have to do it alone and that companionship and group support are available we just have to ask. Elk signifies abundance and is a sign that all we need will be provided for. To remember that we do not need to rush, for sometimes the reward is in the journey itself. .

Elk symbolizes strength and endurance. It teaches us to spend more time with our families and friends. Elk are also very seldom alone, preferring to live in large herds, yet knowing when they need to have some personal space. They are very well prepared to take on a challenge, they can fight passionately about what is important to them, sometimes can be unpredictable being passive one second and aggressive the next, it is their nature.

Believe in yourself…Empower Yourself…Connect with those you love and hold a good sense of Community… and your goals will be met with positive outcome.

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – Corn

corn 1122
Corn shares with us that today is about foundations, making them strong so that they last and can continue to provide in positive ways for the generations to come. Making the right decision is often a task and a difficult one at times. Yet we all should take a moment or two before we speak, step or share to make sure it is in a way that will strengthen that foundation and not break it down.

Often we are put to task and share opinions that are not of good foundations, we are all quick to stand and throw words all to easy, forgetting we are all human and imperfect.

So today take some time to ground yourselves, planting good intentions, sharing insights that will help people achieve their highest goodness as human…

Corn the symbol of sustenance, standing tall for All of life. Corn is considered a gift from the Creator as a food, often used in ceremony. Corn has been part of the Hopi people as they have much skill in being able to grow it in desert sand. Corn Pollen is a blessing used for protection, understanding and forgiveness. Used when doing prayer, in house blessings, and to bless the peoples. Cornmeal, ground from white corn, is considered sacred and is used in blessings as well.

Corn can be easily stored and preserved during the cold winter months, can also be dried to use later. During the time of the Ancestors and in the present dried corn can be made into hominy by soaking corn in water until the kernels split open, then drained and fried over a fire. The husks are also used as they can be braided, made into masks, sleeping mats, baskets and one of my favorites and is truly a work of art … the corn husk dolls. All that remains is the corncob, and these can be used to burn as fuel.

The Corn Maiden gives of her own body to feed her family and provides seeds which ensure a continued source of food. The following is one of my favorite stories, and shows of the importance of all life and of the Eldest Sister … Corn.

The Story of the Three Sisters of the Plant People
Long ago there were three sisters who lived together in an endless field. To look at them one could see that they were very different from each other in every way, yet they were Sisters none the less.

The youngest of the three was very young and was only able to crawl. They had dressed her in the bright and beautiful color of green. The middle sister could be seen to wear a bright yellow dress and she often would run off to play when Father Sun shared his light and gentle winds raced the lands. The oldest sister could be found standing straight and tall above her sisters in order to keep watch over them. She was dressed in a pale green shawl and her hair that was a soft pale yellow could often be seen gently blowing across her face as she stood high upon the field. The one way in which they were all the same was how they were connected. They loved each other with all their hearts, they were family and they stayed together as such. This created a bond that made them very, very strong.

One day a stranger happened along and came to visit the home of the Three Sisters. It was a young boy from the nearby village. They watched him as he spoke with the winged ones, the four leggeds and others that were Sacred to the Sisters. This warmed their hearts and made them smile. That summer the young boy returned, spent the day and when he was gone the youngest sister had disappeared. Her sisters cried and didn’t know what had happened to her. In the days to come the young boy of the village returned to gather the sacred sweetgrass that grew at the water’s edge. The two remaining sisters watched as his feet left their trail in the soft earth back towards his village.

That evening as Grandmother Moon spread her blanket across the sky, the oldest sister discovered that her middle sister had disappeared as well. She stood and wept for her loss. Now the older sister was left alone but she continued to stand tall in the field. Soon the young boy came back and upon seeing how much she missed her sisters he gathered her up and took her to be back with her sisters, understanding that together the love they had for each other was strong and it was what created family.

The Three Sisters are represented as…
Sister Bean
Sister Bean is dressed all in green. At first when she was young she could only crawl. Now as she grows, she clings to and leans on her Sister Corn for support. In return, Sister Bean gives her sister the nutrients she needs to grow.

Sister Squash
The middle sister is Sister Squash although sometimes she is called Pumpkin. She wears a bright, sunshine yellow dress and a golden crown and sits at the feet of her older sisters. She is much shorter than her sisters and her large leaves help keep the weeds away and the soil moist. Her vines are prickly and help to keep unwanted animals away from her sisters.

Sister Corn
The eldest is Sister Corn. She wears a pale green shawl and has silken hair that rustles when the wind blows through it. She grows tall and strong and allows her sister to lean on her for support. She keeps watch over her sisters, looking for danger and warning them.

This also creates a strong foundation for our gardens, the mainstay staples that will provide nutrition to our families.

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – the Duck

Duck stops in today to share some wonderful insights about self with us All! No matter what the task is the Duck will find a way to get it done.

Sometimes life can be hard… sometimes we would rather just quit than do whatever it is that lies before us.  Sometimes it may be people that we are just tired of and want to give up on them….but today Duck says yes the bar may be set high but we need to gather that inner strength and simply push through it. We are not the only ones with issues, we are not free of making mistakes, that is the beauty of life… We ALL have lessons to learn and should remember we are not all the end all of any given situation. So Figure it out, wade through it, wing it, do whatever it takes to take the next step in your life!

Ducks are amazing and they teach us all about balance… and we need balance starting the week off… they are buoyant, they maneuver up and down, in and out and all the way around to meet the task, without complaint. They teach us to keep moving forward, pushing through all the struggles.

Duck is and has been one of my favorite teachers! It speaks to us of diving into your deepest emotions in order to reach a calmer and more peaceful state. They teach us about how to get past adversary and accomplish our goals, sometimes by looking outside of the box to do so. To never stop trying, dreaming, moving ahead with those dreams and goals that you envision. They bring with them the medicine of living for the moment, and living large, loving, laughing.

Think of times in your life, or situations when you aren’t sure how, when. or where… and when you say I just can’t, think of the Ducklings that follow their mama’s no matter how high the step..how deep the dive… how fast they have to run to keep up… they do so without hesitation.

So today…whatever it is that stands in front of you… Embrace the Duck within!

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – the Desert Wolf/Coyote

Desert Wolf/Coyote says today it is time to look past the little lies we tell ourselves and get to the real root of it all. time to step up and into honesty with ourselves…what a concept, right? Well we all do it and probably more often than we want to admit… but we tell ourselves little lies (or big ones) in order to make ourselves feel momentarily better. But when the light of day shows itself, that ugly little lie does not serve us in positives for the issues are still there, only since we have not dealt with them, they tend to fester underneath and cause stress, health issues, irritability and more negatives to pop up in our lives.

So today the Dessert Wolf says enough screwing around… just deal with it head on and be done with it. Once we do we will have a huge sigh of relief and begin to do what we need to, “Take Care of Ourselves” in a good and positive manner.

So get the window cleaner out and clean those mirrors off so you can get a good look at what needs to be taken care of inside your own hoops before the cracks in the glass start to take deeper root!

Desert Wolf also known as Coyote, as trickster, comes to us this day to share its wisdom’s, teaching us that it is sometimes a good thing to laugh at oneself in order to not get caught up in the pain that sometimes comes with life choices and lessons. It is about finding the balance of learning what life teaches and has to share, and when it is time to relax, enjoy and have some fun.

Desert Wolf teaches us to be stealth and observe what we need to see, opening our senses to see the bigger picture of a situation. They speak of using distraction to change outcomes to more positive ones, by utilizing intelligence and good common sense, which often many do not take the time to stop and remember. One of the most amazing skills they offer us is the use of voice and communication to let ourselves be heard, but to also warn that at times, when people use their voices it can be for hidden agenda’s that will not be in positive tones. So pay attention, listen closely so that you may understand and decipher what it is that is actually being said and stay adaptable to what must be done in the situation.

Desert Wolf tells us above all make sure we look at our own self, walk in positives not in deceptive or manipulative ways to get what you want. Look at what truly is motivating you, be honest with self and then stand in the Sacred Hoop to balance. Remembering what you do to respect self, will mirror to the world around you.

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – the Ancestors

The Ancestors, those that have walked before us, those that have shed tears, sweat and blood to enable us to be who we are today. Ancestors who guide us from the beyond, who left lessons and imprints on this earth so that we wouldn’t have to repeat them in order to learn them here in the now, the today. Why is it then we often find ourselves ignoring what was left for us, forgetting the core values that they taught us? Is it we are so caught up in the chaos of the world around us that we miss step and fall in to the everyday negativity that whirls around us like a tornado from the movie “Wizard of Oz”?

Perhaps it is time to slow down, take an accounting of all that is to be and held Sacred within ourselves and in our lives, recalling our Ancestors and all the work they have done over time for each and every one of us. Go back to the root of it all, our core values… the Seven Grandfather Teachings of, Respect, Humility, Truth, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom and Love. (Among the Anishinaabe people, the Teachings of the Seven Grandfathers, also known simply as either the Seven Teachings or Seven Grandfathers, is a set of teachings on human conduct towards others.)

That little voice in our heads, the tingle we may feel as we walk through our days, that knowing we have and stop for a second to say hmmm how did I know that? All little ways that our Ancestors reach out to us through time /no time itself to assist and guide us as we walk our human. Yes we are not going crazy; we are simply tapping into lessons and teachings of long ago… things that resonate to the very core of our souls as truths and understandings.

So what does this a;; have to do with today you are thinking? Well it has everything to do with today, for as we move forward…as we take each step… with each thought and action we take… we must remember we too are imprinting and leaving our own mark on the world. One day the people from tribes of the future will look back on us as the Ancestors, so let us make sure when they do they are thanking us.

If we make that conscious effort to stay in positives within and outside our own Sacred Hoops… perhaps we can influence positive change and movement that will echo through time/no time and strengthen the basic teachings, the very foundations which we come from. Whether you are Baptist, Buddhist, Aboriginal, Islamic, Born Again, Catholic, or Jew… whether you are gay, heterosexual, yellow, black, brown or white… poor or rich, young or old… we all imprint, we all can choose to promote positive over negatives.

So today choose to honor our Ancestors as they support us… Today share a story from old times gone by so they are not lost. Today stop and say a prayer or even simply whisper a quiet thank you for all they have done for us in order to make the world a better place for each and every one of us. Honor the work.. the sacrifice… and all they contributed as they walked the human before us.

Let us join spiritual hands to offer prayer.

I call to the sacred winds…to carry my words
To the Grandmothers and Grandfathers of the North, the south, the east, the west, Above …below and within…

I call to the sacred winds to carry my words to the Winged ones…the Four Leggeds…the Plant People…the Crystal Keepers, the Thunder Beings, the Angelic Realm…Mother Mary and Magdalene…my Brother Christ and all the nations that love us.

I thank you for all the many blessings that you have shared with us today and beyond and I ask that you hear our prayers whether spoken our held silently within our hearts.

Today I ask that you hear our prayers as we stand humbly before you, small and human.
Help us to remember we are all but a tiny part of a great universe, that we are all connected as one…

Bring us the strength we need to walk our paths without ego or judgment…
Allow our hearts to hear what our ears are missing
Teach us how to allow forgiveness for others and ourselves
Fill our being with the unconditional love that you so freely offer all.
I call that we be reminded we are all no better than or less than one another.

Guide us through our days, to help us with our humanness…that we learn to reconnect with others in a gentle and positive way. Offering smiles when they are needed without thought, shoulders or ears to help ease another…and words that will uplift or soothe.

Keep our children safe and strong in this troubled world… I ask that on this day and days to come…guidance is shared with our children to help them as they walk their paths. Help open their eyes so they can learn and see the right way of things, teach them to respect all life no matter how small, open their ears and minds so that they may understand things that are being taught to them in a good and gentle manner…open their hearts so that when the harshness of the world falls at their feet, they can cope and handle it with compassion and understanding.

I ask that today and all days ahead, that we remember to walk with our Ancestors, honoring them and all they sacrificed for us. Showing them and the world that in doing so we understand the strong foundations that were taught to us, to assist ourselves, our families and friends and all those in the worlds we live in to also be strong examples of goodness and light.

I thank all those who have walked with us and answer our calls…this day and in days to come…and honor you …

May it Be Said… May it Be So!

So my wish to you all today is for all of us to connect to our roots, the seemingly long forgotten teachings of our basic foundations, to shore them up, bring about restoration for Humanity and compassion again. To understand that if we believe in it strongly enough with Love we can heal and balance again.

Blessings One and All!

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – the Loon

The Loon shows itself today speaking about how it is time to let our voices be heard on ALL levels. When working towards our goals, adding positives to the world, sometimes it is difficult to get our voice heard above the chaotic world we live in. The noise level of the mundane and out of tune unbalanced world that we live in can sometimes overshadow what is needed to be heard for us to move forward. It all has cause and effect, so when you send your voice out into the Universe, dig deep into your souls for purpose before releasing its story and tone. Make it be heard, draw attention to the melody and story, after all it is meant to resonate with the Universe to bring about the highest good for the strongest walk as we travel the Human… so make it count, make it heard.

The haunting song of the Loon calls out to us speaking to us of our Dreams, Wants and Desires… the things that we want to happen or become. They reach out to speak to our higher self. To tell us it is time to release all we have wished for so that they may open to a new reality.

They remind us to understand that often we are being taught while in dream state, or perhaps even visited by our Guides, Spirit and/or Loved Ones that have continued on a journey past the mere physical. We need to be open to what they are sharing with us, for they are assisting us in walking the human in a more positive way and getting us through stress and everyday life obstacles.

Loon calls through the reality and illusion of time as we know it. Mystically being able to conjure spirit and energy with their very voice will help you to awaken to possibilities that you may not have noticed and inspire your creativity. It’s time to allow the boundaries we have placed on our minds to fall away and understand that the cosmic consciousness is bigger than just one single thought… one single act…one single being…

So open to the manifestations you are trying to make happen and realize the only thing that stops us from reaching our goals is the boundaries and limits we place on self. Open to being the best incarnation of you that can be… grow, learn, live, love and expand with each new experience. Allow your soul’s very essence to reach beyond what we can see with our conscious mind and expand into all that is Sacred….

Spiritual and Totem Insights for the Day – the Parrot

Who’s your leeeeetttle` friend? Well it is the Parrot that shows it’s face to us today to teach us a few lessons for the day! The first is be careful of your words… once they have been released into the world they will forever be echoed… so make sure you say what you mean and that they are words that will leave positive imprints on those that hear, feel and bear witness to them.

The second thing Parrot want us to remember is that actions, deeds, words are mimicked by those around you. What we often fail to remember is that we are responsible for setting the tone or mood for the world around us. If we are confident and pleasant… things will reflect that in our daily walks. If we are negative and bitter our world becomes shaded and chaotic… full of negatives that spread like a disease. So be mindful of the imprints we all leave on the world around us today, and be a more positive part of it not only for yourself but for others as well.

Parrot assists us in seeing that possibilities are endless as we walk the human. Sharing with us that we need to open ourselves up and communicate with the world around us. The Parrot teaches us to look at situations and opinions that are different than yours. It is all about hearing what we are listening to so that we may learn what we can accomplish, what we are capable of. To go outside of our boundaries of what we may right now consider normal. Because different, extraordinary may just be our New Normal!

Parrot brings us reminders about what is in the power of Father Sun and the healing energy that is offered. They share with us the understanding that will help balance and find harmony with all life around us. Aligning our Sacred Hoops with the pure joy and magic of all things possible.

I am bear Medicinewalker and I am dedicated to Educating and sharing the lessons, teachings and culture I have been taught by my Elders and journey with the World. It is not enough merely to learn the ways of our Elders. We must honor those traditions by sharing and educating the World. Inspiring others …Inspiring our Youth. Through the Music… the Arts…the stories…”
